Meet Dr. Agnes Zalesna, a distinguished 2021 graduate of the Psy.D. program at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology (ISPP) at National Louis University. Dr. Zalesna’s academic journey includes an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from ISPP Chicago and a B.A. in Applied Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Currently serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Clarity Clinic in Arlington Heights, IL, Dr. Zalesna specializes in conducting psychological and neuropsychological evaluations for individuals of all ages. Her work extends to individual psychotherapy, employing an integrative therapeutic approach. Notably, her clinical research project focused on “Social Media and Bullying as Risk Factors of Early Onset Eating Disorders: A Psychoeducational and Preventative Model.”
In a recent conversation, Dr. Zalesna shared her unique role as a Postdoctoral Fellow, emphasizing her deep passion for neuropsychological and psychological evaluations. She finds fulfillment in navigating diverse cases, continually challenging herself and contributing to the field.
Reflecting on her time at ISPP, Dr. Zalesna praised the program’s renowned clinical curriculum. The program’s reputation instilled confidence in her abilities, fostering a robust foundation for her journey as a clinician. She said “The clinical program provided by ISPP is amongst the most well-known in the Chicagoland area. Having professors who not only were ISPP alumni, but also clinical supervisors who attended the school allowed for a closer professional relationship to develop. The curriculum provided through the courses made me feel confident in my abilities, and because of the reputation of the program, gave my clinical supervisors more confidence in my abilities as a new clinician.”
When asked about her journey into psychology, Dr. Zalesna traced it back to a transformative high school experience. Initially pursuing a teaching degree, a serendipitous introduction to Psychology ignited her passion. Exploring theories, brain structure, and psychopathology altered her career trajectory. Driven by a profound interest in understanding human behavior and cognitive processes, she transitioned to clinical psychology in 2011. This journey led her to work in hospital and private practice settings, solidifying her passion for psychological testing. Returning to ISPP in 2016, she earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2021, surpassing the expectations she had as a high school senior.
