Meet Dr. Ligons, a 2014 graduate of ISPP, whose journey from the classroom to private practice showcases the impactful role of her PsyD program in shaping her career.
Dr. Ligons is a licensed clinical psychologist and proud owner of Vilago Psychological Services in Chicago. Specializing in individual therapy and intake assessments, she caters to a diverse population, addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, and PTSD.
One of Dr. Ligons’ unique contributions to the field is her passion for psychodrama—an experiential approach that breathes life into therapeutic processes. Through accumulating training hours, she aspires to achieve certification and further integrate this dynamic method into her practice.
Reflecting on her time at ISPP, Dr. Ligons credits the program for providing a robust clinical foundation and fostering critical thinking skills. The emphasis on diversity has not only enriched her understanding of complex issues but has also deepened her insights into her own identity and that of her clients.
Dr. Ligons’ commitment to advocacy and social justice shines through her work with underserved populations. After completing post-doc training at Mt. Sinai Hospital, she continued serving African American and Latino youth affected by trauma, poverty, and systemic oppression. Even in private practice, this commitment endures, as seen in her recent initiative—a therapy group for African Americans aged 25-35, providing a safe space to discuss challenges unique to their experiences as people of color.
In essence, Dr. Ligons exemplifies the spirit of ISPP, combining clinical expertise, a commitment to diversity, and a dedication to serving marginalized communities. Her journey inspires current and future students to make a lasting impact in the world of psychology.
