The Communication and Media program at National Louis University is thrilled to offer the scholarship for a student published in the department's Communications Quarterly magazine.
The 2025 award-winning student will attend a weeklong session of Paris Café Writing in Paris, France, during the late spring of 2026.
Patricia Tennison, a former NLU writing instructor and founder of Paris Café Writing, has donated the first $1,700. This is the fee for a week of Paris Café Writing. It includes the group writing sessions, a private writing review, six lunches or dinners, five breakfasts, a walking tour, a jazz concert and a few surprises.
But the award-winning student will need more help than that.
Donations through the university to the Paris Café Writing Scholarship fund may be tax deductible; see your tax advisor. Here are some ideas of what your donation could buy:
$1,200: roundtrip flight, Chicago to Paris
$165: first-time U.S. passport
$150: 1 of 7 nights in a modest hotel
$100: a carry-on luggage or a once-in-a-lifetime French dinner
$50: a simple lunch, a bunch of Metro tickets, and a café-au-lait every day
$25: a book from Shakespeare and Company, and a couple really good chocolates
