Biography:
I’m currently the Dean of the College of Professional Studies and Advancement at National Louis University in Chicago, Illinois. My career in education includes positions as a CPS high school English teacher, curriculum administrator, tenured professor, assistant dean and community college president.
I was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Chicago’s Humboldt Park Neighborhood. I’m a proud graduate of the Chicago Public Schools.
My leadership and research has focused on culturally responsive teaching and school-community engagement.
I engage with community and education leaders to promote best practices within college programs to support the retention and success of students at the postsecondary level. Some of his professional successes include implementing teacher-leadership teams focused on evidenced-based collaborative planning and measuring the cultural relevant teaching “gaps” in a school’s curriculum and pedagogical practices.
I hold a doctorate of education in educational psychology with a focus on human learning and development and a master of arts degree in teaching, both from National Louis University, and a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
