Student Privacy

You will likely use many different technologies throughout your school work. Tool providers and other sites collect and store personal information. By reviewing a provider's privacy policy, you can learn what data the provider collects and the choices you can make about how your personal information is collected and used.

Accessing Your Course

  • Q: D2L does not seem to work properly. What can I do?
    A: Run a browser check to ensure your browser is compatible with D2L. Consider upgrading or using a different browser like Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
  • Q: Why can't I see my course? (Future, current, past)
    A: Your course might not be open yet, or it may have been closed by the instructor. If you are within 14 days of the course start date and still cannot see it, contact the NLU IT Helpdesk.
  • Q: How do I reset my password?
    A: Click here to reset your password by following the on-screen instructions.

Assignments

  • Q: I am trying to upload a document to D2L, but it's not working. What am I doing wrong?
    A: Ensure the file has the correct extension (e.g., .pdf, .docx) and that the filename contains only alphanumeric characters, underscores, or dashes. Make sure there are no special characters such as: !, #, %, &, or *. 

Discussions

  • Q: Why can’t I see my classmates’ discussion postings?
    A: You may need to post first before viewing others' posts, depending on the settings chosen by your instructor.
  • Q: I know I posted my discussion, but now I can't find it.
    A: Check your display settings to ensure your post is visible. If you still can’t find it, you may have posted to a different discussion topic or saved a draft instead of posting.

Email

  • Q: Why do I get an error when I try to send D2L mail to an outside address?
    A: D2L is a closed system, so you can only send emails to @d2l.nl.edu addresses. For external emails, use your student Outlook account.

Quizzes

  • Q: I started a Quiz but I cannot submit it.
    A: Save your answers, close the quiz, and contact your instructor, who can submit or manually grade your quiz.

Miscellaneous

  • Q: Why can some of my classmates see the next week's module, dropbox, etc., and I can't?
    A: Your instructor may be using selective release options. Contact them for clarification.
  • Q: How do I make a suggestion?
    A: Submit suggestions through the IDEA course evaluation survey available here.
  • Q: I have a Question. Where can I get an answer?
    A: For course-related questions, ask your instructor. For technical issues, contact the NLU IT Helpdesk.
