Resubmit an Assignment

Sometimes you may need to resubmit an assignment after realizing a mistake or needing to update your work. This guide will help you understand how to resubmit an assignment in D2L Brightspace.

Step 1: Access the Assignment Submission

  1. Log in to D2L Brightspace: Start by logging into your D2L Brightspace account using your username and password.
  2. Navigate to Assignments: From your course home page, click on "Assignments" in the course navigation bar to view all available assignments.
  3. Select the Assignment: Click on the specific assignment you want to resubmit your work to.

Step 2: Check Your Ability to Resubmit

  1. Review Submission Status: After submitting a file, you cannot delete it. However, if your instructor allows multiple submissions and the assignment’s end date has not passed, you can resubmit your work.
  2. Contact Instructor if Necessary: If you do not have the option to resubmit, contact your instructor to request permission to submit a new file.

Step 3: Resubmit Your Assignment

  1. Navigate to Submit Files: Once you've selected the assignment, go to the "Submit Files" section.
  2. Click on Add a File: To begin the resubmission process, click "Add a File."
  3. Select the File to Resubmit: Browse to the location of the file you want to submit as a replacement. You can choose a file from your:
    • Local computer or storage device
    • Personal locker
    • Group locker
    • Brightspace ePortfolio
  4. Drag and Drop the File: For this example, drag and drop the file onto the upload target, or click to browse and select the file from your computer.
  5. Click Add: After selecting the file, click "Add" to attach it to your submission.

Step 4: Finalize and Submit

  1. Enter Comments (Optional): If you wish to include any comments with your submission, type them in the comments box.
  2. Click Overwrite: When you're ready, click "Overwrite" to replace the existing file with the new one.
  3. Confirm Overwrite: A confirmation message will appear asking if you would like to overwrite the existing file. Confirm your choice to proceed.

Step 5: Review Submission History

  1. View History: After resubmitting, click "View History" to see a breakdown of your current and previous submissions, including any deleted files.
  2. Notify Your Instructor: It’s important to contact your instructor to inform them that you have resubmitted the assignment. This ensures they are aware of the new submission and can grade it accordingly.

Step 6: What to Do If You Can’t Resubmit

Contact Your Instructor: If the option to resubmit is not available, reach out to your instructor to explain why you need to submit a new file. They may provide additional instructions or open the assignment for resubmission.
