How to Create an Assignment

 

Step 1: Access Your Course

  1. Log in to D2L using your username and password.
  2. Select the desired course using either:
    • The My Courses widget
    • The Course Selector icon at the top right of the page

Step 2: Open the Content Tool

  1. From the course-level navbar, click Content to access the Content tool.
  2. If Content is not available in your navbar, access it through Course Admin.

Step 3: Select a Module for the Assignment

  1. In the Table of Contents on the left-hand side, choose the module where you want to create the assignment.
  2. If you need help managing modules, refer to the documentation on Setting Up and Managing a Course.

Step 4: Create a New Assignment

  1. Within the selected module, click Upload / Create > New Assignment.
  2. Fill in the assignment details, including:
    • Assignment Name
    • Assignment Grade and Grade Value (if applicable)
    • Assessment Type:
      • In Grade Book for summative assessments
      • Not in Grade Book for performative assessments
    • Due Date (if applicable)
    • Assignment Description

Step 5: Configure Additional Settings (Optional)

  1. Use the drop-down menus on the right-hand side to configure advanced options.
  2. For more details on advanced configurations, refer to the video Adding Advanced Assignment Options.

Step 6: Finalize and Save

  1. Set the Visibility of the assignment.
  2. Click Save and Close to complete the creation process.

Step 7: Verify Assignment and Grade Book Entry

  1. If a grade item was added, it will now appear in the Grade Book.
  2. Assignment details, including dates and grades, will be visible based on the settings you configured.
  3. To return to your Content Modules, use the breadcrumbs just below the navbar.
